Bio-impedance Analysis (BIA) - Body Composition

Waist2_en

We have a high end Bio-Impedance Analysis (BIA) machine that measures body composition i.e. percentage lean muscle mass and percentage body fat. When undertaking a weight management program the goal should be increasing muscle mass (at least not losing it) while decreasing percentage body fat. Some weight loss programs out there will promote weight loss that includes muscle loss and the percentage body fat does not improve the way it should for overall health.

Testing with the BIA machine can be used as part of a body composition program for weight management such as First Line Therapy and Healthy & Active both of which are offered at our clinic. BIA testing can also be used before and after using our Infrared Sauna to measure health improvements following 10 sessions.

Testing with the BIA machine can check:

  • Percentage lean muscle mass
  • Percentage of body fat
  • How well your cells are hydrated
  • Metabolic rate and number of calories you burn each day/ or should be eating to lose fat or maintain your weight
  • Your need for detoxification & requirement for essential fatty acids or multivitamin supplements

Food, Hormone, Hair, Urine Testing:

Food Testing
Testing for foods that you may be sensitive to can greatly enhance your health  by reducing the energy load put on your body by avoiding the offending foods. We use Carroll Food Intolerance Testing primarily but also have available IgE testing through Gammadynacare for those people who are interested.

Hair Analysis
Hair samples are sent to a lab for analysis of minerals and heavy metals.

Urine and Saliva testing
Saliva testing is very useful for testing for hormone levels in the body such as estrogen, progesterone, DHEA, cortisol, TSH and testosterone. These are useful to know for thyroid issues, menopausal symptoms, adrenal fatigue, infertility, and male symptoms to name a few. The saliva testing is a more sensitive means of testing some of these hormones than blood.

We use urine testing primarily for heavy metals as it is a more sensitive test than the blood for it represents body stores as opposed to acute exposure which may show up in the blood if tested soon enough.
